CENTRE EQUITATION AT THE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008

This was the second year of the Centre Equitation at the Championships and this year kindly sponsored by Windsor Partners Ltd. The competition consisted of a dressage test, marked using the Riders Test 2004, and a show jumping phase to be marked on equitation.

Teams consisted of 2 members of 12 years and under and 2 members 13 years and over. The Centres could bring just 2 ponies for their team to ride. This year 19 teams took part on the day with teams coming from as far as South Wales & Richmond in south west London.

There was an early start for the tack and turnout judges, teams started to congregate at the dressage warm up area from 8.30am. Judges had their jobs cut out for them as the standard was once more excellent. The results went as follows: 1st Seechem Equestrian Centre, 2nd Freshfields Equestrian Centre and 3rd Witham Villa Riding Centre.

Both dressage judges commented that the standard was much improved on last year. The show jumping did prove testing and we had a few eliminations in this phase. Perhaps ponies were taking advantage of the occasion and their nervous riders as this event at the Pony Club Championships was, for many Centre Members, their first away from the riding school. All managed incredibly well and there were some excellent scores posted in both phases.

Supporters, proprietors and family members were lining the show jumping ring for the prize giving, cheering on their team. The atmosphere was competitive but light hearted, and the sun remained out just long enough to keep the rosettes dry!

Mr Adrian Pratt from Windsor Partners Ltd was on hand to present the Team trophy, salvers and rosettes.

The Pony Club Centre Chairman, Mr Jeremy Franks presented the Junior Individual awards.

Lt Col Tadzik Kopanski, one of the founders of Centre Membership, was there to present the Senior Individual trophy and awards.

Mrs Judy E Edwards, Chief Executive of The Pony Club presented the Best Turned Out rosettes and salvers.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the day – scorers, arena stewards, judges, writers and commentary. Also to the proprietors and parents who made it possible for the teams to get there and take part.
