You are in: Branches / Atherstone Hunt / Atherstone Hunt Activities
Each year the Branch runs a mini, junior, senior and advanced camp. Camp is an excellent opportunity to have lots of fun and make new friends whilst benefiting from several days of instruction across a range of activities. There is a camp which will suit each range of ability, from lead rein up to B test and beyond.
This page is intended to explain each of the camps in turn, with details of how to apply for each camp and who to contact for more information.
Mini Camp
Mini camp is run over three consecutive days; unlike the other camps, members bring their ponies with them each day, rather than them staying over-night. When you arrive at camp, you will be allocated to a 'ride' along with others the same ability as you.
The timetable for each day is generally based around a ridden activity in the morning, followed by lunch and a non-riden activity, then a second ridden activity in the afternoon. Ridden activities will vary each day but will include flat work, show jumping, grids, a hack or cross country jumps (depending on ability) and games.
Non-ridden activities are usually based around achievement badges, so mini-camp is a great opportunity to work towards that gold badge award! On one of the days, we usually arrange a swimming session too.
Junior Camp
Junior Camp is the next step up from Mini Camp, generally covering those working towards D, D+ and C test. Junior Camp is a four day camp held at Bramcote Barracks where your ponies stay overnight in temporary stabling. Similar to mini-camp, members are organised into rides based on ability, with each ride having their own instructor.
The timetable for each day is generally based around mucking out first, followed by a riden activity in the morning, stable management, lunch, a second ridden activity, stable management and tack cleaning, feeding ponies then finally home for a well earned dinner!
Ridden activities include dressage, dressage to music, show jumping, cross country, mounted games and often some polo too.

Senior Camp
Senior Camp is organised in a very similar way to Junior Camp, except members also stay overnight with their ponies! Senior Camp is generally aimed at members 12 and over who are working towards C and C+ test.
In addition to the range of activities run during the day (similar to junior camp), there are also social activities run in the evenings.
To stay over at camp you need to either bring a tent, caravan or horsebox (with living accomodation!). Although unfortunately we can't allow generators and / or electrical hook-ups, we do provide a toilet and shower block and a hard-working team of parents keep everyone fed in the main marquee!
Advanced Camp
Advanced Camp is generally aimed towards more senior members and associates who are working towards B test and above, and area competitions.
As well as having an instructor per ride all week, we do also organise outside instructors and equine care experts to teach during parts of the week - previous camps have included professional event riders teaching cross country and talks from feed / nutritionalist experts and physiotherapists.
Advanced campers also stay over-night and there are social activities run in the evening.
